When the radiator first came into use it was by many seen as a sterile mechanical thing — a poor replacement for the ancient fire that captured the social Ur-Trance and created ‚nightlife‘. However, the radiator should not be confused with fire. It is the externalization of the human circulatory system, a series of pumps, heat exchanges, and furnaces that power a soul from quasi-mysterious sources. The activated radiator emits 60 percent of the warmth that is pumped through its appendages. This is roughly the same amount of heat that we humans emit as we burn our daily calories.
Shining white ribs warmth that does not flicker appears as a radiator that has, in its limited capabilities, imitated us. The stabilizing supports have become the arms and the legs, the rib-like fins that emit comforting warmth have formed torso and organs. Their is no outflow or inflow of new energy. The system has become warm-blooded, self-contained, and independent. Still, this radiator-cum-human is not ambulatory, and therefore does not choose what it warms, just as our heart does not choose who it loves or our eyes do not choose what they believe. Droescher has reflected the shape of our humanity off of a sterile mechanical thing and has asked us to consider a radiator that gives blindly its warmth and perhaps that is something that we can all emulate for a more comforting world.
